After K&D left, Jerry remained in the middle for a short time with Phil next to Brent. Later that year, Jerry was switched to stage right, but eventually settled next to Brent on stage left , I believe, at the beginning of 1982. I've heard and read that Jerry really loved Brent's playing and switched to his side to in order to interact more musically with him.

In this web site there are various pics from 78-79 and you can see Jerry in
center and on stage right.

Here's the U-Mass show in 5-79 w/ Jerry still in the middle.

In this site there are some 79-80 pics with Jerry in the middle and stage right in the third row of photos.

If you go down to the 4th row, you can see that Jerry had settled into the stage left position by 5-82 at the Greek.

Here you can see the Band's configuration at their 1st show with Brent at Spartan Stadium.

Here is a nice set of 5 pages of band and fan photos from Greek 82

In the 1st photo attachment at the bottom, in the fall 0f '79 it looks like he's on the stage right.

In the second one, you can see that Jerry is still to the right of Bob at the Greek in September of 81.

In the 3rd one, you can see that Jerry is in the middle. This was taken at the very end of the K&D era, 1-15-79 in Springfield, Ma.

One of the nice thing about Greek Th. pics is that you can always tell the year by the different tye dye / psychedelic backdrops

What great photos! Thanks for posting them.

I'm thinking the Jerry-Phil switch happened during the spring tour, '82. I've heard two things about it: One that it came from Phil and had to do with being closer to Bill rather than Mickey; that he was having trouble hearing "the one." There was some particular drum he supposedly wanted to be right by. (I don't know enough about the drum layout to have a clue, but that's what I've heard or read or whatever.)

The other is that Jerry was having trouble hearing Brent; that hearing each other on stage can be a challenge and he specifically wanted to hear Brent better up close. Perhaps for the interaction; that's why he'd want to hear, right? Who knows; maybe some combination of everything ...

Incidentally, hope you all had a great 4th in your various locations!
